The place
Apache Oaks was a children’s church camp for 50 years. Everything here has been newly remodeled, and the decor curated to reflect and honor the history of this land.
It sits on 25 acres at 5,300 feet in the Arizona Sky Islands, 13 miles south of Patagonia, in oak woodland and open grassland that stays a good deal cooler than the desert below. Coronado National Forest wraps the property, with access out the gate. We are rustic and remote, but beautiful, homey and peaceful. All the comforts, immersed in nature.
The whole property goes to your group. It works for a small gathering and it works for a large one, so you can size your program to what you want to run. Twenty five acres also means people can spread out, which matters for the kind of deep work that needs quiet and room.
Where your group gathers
Gadsden Art Barn. A 720 square foot pavilion under the oaks, screened on all sides so you get the fresh air and stay out of the sun and wind. It sets up for circles, rows, tables or floor work.
Coronado Commons. A full commercial kitchen and dining hall opening onto a 1,500 square foot patio under the oak trees, strung with lights. A fire pit sits out on the land within view.
Where your group sleeps
Cochise Hideout. Six bedrooms over 2 stories, sleeping 16. Five of them configure as a king or as 2 twins, so the same room suits a couple or two people who each want their own bed. The sixth is a queen.
Lozen Bunk House. A small separate building with a sitting area, sleeping 3.
That is 19 indoors across 7 bedrooms. We also have Oak House, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths sleeping 6, with its own kitchen, living room, laundry and a deck. It is available to rent if you need the extra space, which takes you to 25 beds.
A separate bath house has men’s and women’s sides, in addition to the bathroom inside the lodging building. There is room for tents and RVs if your group runs bigger, dry camping with access to the bath house.
Food
Coronado Commons holds a full commercial kitchen opening onto the dining hall, so a group of 25 can be cooked for properly. There is no food service on site. Bring a chef, bring a caterer, or cook together as a group. Resources available upon request.
Days here
A 1 mile walking loop that never leaves the property. Hiking straight out the gates into Coronado National Forest. Some of the best birding in the country, in the canyons around Patagonia. World class gravel riding on the roads through these hills. Sonoita and Elgin wine country less than 25 miles up the road. No light pollution, so the night sky here is full of stars.
Good to know
Two night minimum. Starlink wifi with a mesh system covers the property and wifi calling works, so you stay connected even though cell service out here is thin. Dogs are welcome:)
Three hours from Phoenix and 1 hour 15 minutes from Tucson International Airport. We are beautifully rustic and immersed in nature. The pavement ends before you reach us, and a regular car is fine in dry weather.

About Apache Oaks
Hi, I'm Laurinda — co-owner of Apache Oaks alongside my husband Mike. By trade I'm a naturopathic doctor with a deep love for wellness and the natural world, which made falling for this land an easy decision. Behind the scenes I handle the website, bookings, and all the little details that make sure your stay goes smoothly. Outside of AO I'm mom to two amazing young men, world traveler, equally happy on a dance floor, in lotus pose or curled up with a good book. I can't wait to help you plan your retreat here.
